Clinical Expertise. Broader Perspective
I'm a clinical psychologist, educator, and consultant with nearly 20 years of experience treating trauma and related concerns, conducting research, and training mental health professionals. Much of my career has focused on people working in healthcare, public safety, legal advocacy, education, and other high-responsibility professions where exposure to suffering, difficult decisions, and competing responsibilities can take a significant psychological toll.
Through this work, I've seen both the extraordinary commitment people bring to their professions and the personal toll those responsibilities can take. Too often, the response to burnout, moral injury, and psychological distress is to encourage greater resilience, better self-care, or more effective stress management.
While individual strategies have value, there are limits to what any one person should be expected to absorb. Meaningful support requires looking beyond the individual to the expectations, organizational cultures, and systems that shape their experiences. If we ask people to shoulder extraordinary responsibilities, we must also take responsibility for the conditions in which they carry them.
